Light of the World Illustration
Today, I am going to share with you a few pictures of my hand lettering process.
Before I being a hand lettering project, I always hunt for a good quote. I usually find my quotes from Pinterest or the Bible. I did an illustration for 71.5 Magazine and wanted to continue a theme which brought me to today’s example. I am excited that 71.5 Magazine reach out to me on Instagram, and ask if I’d be willing to submit a hand lettering project. 71.5 Magazine is a new magazine, so if you would like to learn more about it, or see my illustration, you can visit them on Instagram, Facebook, or their website.
The quote I selected comes from Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” In a nutshell, this verse means that you are an example to everyone that is around you. You and I both have the capability to demonstrate good works. When we do good, not only is it beneficial to our lives, but it also brings honor to God. Cool beans!
Using a good marker is critical when tracing my hand lettering designs. In the past, I used Micron Ink Pens, but I’m currently using Fabre Castell Pens because I wanted to see if I noticed a difference. Currently, my Microns are packed away, and Michael’s only had Faber-Castell ones in stock, but I am comfortably satisfied to have Faber Castell Pens.
Then I watercolored the lightbulb and photoshopped the two pieces together.

Wala! It takes time to learn how to draw fonts, but I really enjoy making something original. Let me know what you think. Constructive critiques are welcomed.
